Yashaswini's VFX-001 Level 2 report
The Fusion Page:
The fusion page is the fourth page according to the panel in DaVinci Resolve. This page creates mind-blowing animations and visuals that can be seen daily. The animations that we see in advertisements are done using the fusion page of DaVinci Resolve. Fusion Page is a Node based workflow with hundreds of 2D and 3D tools. I believe the Fusion page is the coolest page I have had the chance to work on. A few things that I learned while working around with the Fusion Page are:
- Nodes :
The fusion page has a flow chart workflow called Node Tree that helps visually map out how effects are connected and work together. Nodes act as a blueprint for the animation. They are also called Building Blocks of the Fusion Page.
- Masks:
Masks are components of the Fusion Page that allows you to define a visible area for an effect on an image. It is used to make the animation appear neat while allowing the applied effect to be shown in the visible area specified.
- Merge:
As the name indicates, Merge Node helps in merging all the effects to give out a smooth animation. Using Merge node is really helpful as it gives a clear view of the efects used for a particular animation that is applied.
Make sure to keep note of the number of nodes that you are using.

The Color Page:
Color is the most important part of any video. The color gives the feel that is required for the viewer to grasp so that one can understand the scenario with much clarity. Imagine watching a black-and-white movie. If the actors can express their emotions thoroughly, one will get the clarity required to understand the scenario. Coming to Color movies that we see today, one can grasp the situation based on the tone of a certain clip of the movie. So you can imagine how much impact the Color page has in a video. The tonal ranges of the clip are adjusted using this page. This page also works on node-based criteria, where the nodes are used to edit the tonal range of a certain clip of the video. I believe Color page is the most crucial page for any video to come out well. A few things I learnt while I was playing around the Color page are:
- Balancing the Image color:
The process of Color Grading starts with balancing the image color using the tools present in the interface. Balancing the colors of the image levelling the number of different colors present in the image and makes it look better than the original one which makes it appealing to the viewer.
- Use of Primary Wheels:
There are four wheels that helps in color grading the certain clip. As the name suggests, these wheels are used for primary color grading, i.e, doing the basic color correcting and grading that is required for the project. The four wheels of the Primary wheels are Lift, Gamma, Gain, Offset. The individual wheels features are as follows:
- Lift :
Lift is one of the primary wheels that helps in controlling the shadows in the clip that makes the video look dull and bland. It helps in lifting the shadows and making the clip bright so things can appear clear and vibrant.
- Gamma:
It is also one of the primary wheels of the Color page. It helps in controlling the midtone of the image. Midtones are the specific areas in the image that are neither dark nor light, but they fall in between the highlights and the shadows. This wheel is the mixture of the lift and gain as it controls the components which are not covered in either of the two mentioned wheels.
- Gain:
It is also one of the primary wheels of the Color page. It is used to control the highlights of the image. This wheel takes care of the brighter parts of the video and controls the brightness, if it is high, which makes the video hurtful to the eyes of the viewer.
- Offset:
This wheel allows the editor to adjust the whole image’s brightness without affecting any other component. This allows the editor to control all the above mentioned three wheels at the same time.
- WaveForms:
As the name suggests, waveforms are used to monitor the changes done to the clip and keep track of the levels of the colours in the image. The waveforms show the amount of red, blue, and green components a clip contains which helps in making decisions to edit which component to get the desired output.

I would like to thank MARVEL for giving me such an opportunity to represent my works and establishing a platform to showcase my skills. I'll look forward to working more on improving and learning. Forever grateful for the opportunity!
