Installing Da Vinci Resolve 20

Da Vinci Resolve 20 is a powerful editing software used by both professional film makers and students alike. To install Da Vinci Resolve 20, simply search up ‘Blackmagic design’ on your web browser, or use the link: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/in/products/davinciresolve to directly install it according to your system specifications.

The Media Page

The media page allows us to import the media needed for our projects efficiently.

The top left corner of the page allows you to select the location of the files from where you wish to import your media, making the process much easier. It also has a display which lets you review your content.

Here, we can also add any media to our Favourites so we don’t have to go looking for important content.

Making bins helped me streamline the editing process, letting me group together media. I made bins for audio, images, and video; further making bins for the different categories of videos I was going to use.

Task-1-The Edit Page

The edit page is the go-to place for putting together your project. You can import your media directly into the edit page, and organise it busing bins. To arrange your media in the desired order, just open the media on the Media Master and drag it onto the Timeline. The media will now appear on the Timeline.

Hover the cursor over either end of the media, and a toggle appears. Using this toggle you can trim the video or audio to our desired time duration. On the edit page, you can also apply audio and video transitions- Making your work smoother and more cohesive.

Assignment-1

Create a 30-second video using the Edit Page, incorporating cuts, transitions, and basic audio adjustments.

For this assignment, I captured the serenity of nature, by using beautiful clips of rivers, fields, and the rain. Instead of using music, I used sounds that emulate the natural sounds near those landscapes, which helps us really see the beauty of nature.

I used the edit page to add audio and video transitions, and to trim my media.

Task-2-The Cut Page

The Cut page allows us to make quick and precise cuts in our videos. By enlarging the timeline, it makes it easier to trim the media to our desired length perfectly.

Assignment-2

Create a fast-paced 1-minute social media video using the Cut Page, focusing on storytelling and quick assembly.

For assignment 2, I picked the storyline of humanity- utilising cuts to create a dramatic effect, highlighting how far we've come as a civilisation. Using the Cut Page allowed me to make precise cuts of video down to a fraction of a second.

The fairlight page

The Fairlight page of DaVinci resolve 20 allows us to edit, add effects to, and mix audio effectively.

The Fairlight page is designed to be intuitive and easy to learn for new users, as well as powerful and extremely fast for professionals working on massive projects with over a thousand tracks.

For this task, I used the Fairlight page to reduce the background noise in a video I filmed of a parade. I used the dynamics section of the mixer page to enable expanders and gates, and used the noise reduction feature.

Deliver Page

I used the deliver page to export my video, it allows us to choose the resolution, framerate, and other details before exporting the project.
