Final Report of VFX Course
Installation of DaVinci Resolve
To begin with, I visited the Marvel UVCE website under the VFX course section. From there, I found a link that redirected me to the official Blackmagic Design website. I downloaded the free version of DaVinci Resolve and installed it on my PC. After installation, when I opened the software, the first screen that appeared was a tab asking me to create a new project. Once I created a project, I could see different tools and options that looked very exciting. These were the tools I explored in detail during my learning.
Introduction to Tabs and Tools in DaVinci Resolve
1. Mediapool
The first place where I started was the MediaPool. Here I could import either a single file or a whole folder of media into my project. It felt like the base storage area of everything I wanted to edit.
2. Timeline
This was where the real editing happened. I could drag media files into the timeline and arrange them in any order. Using shortcuts made the process much faster:
I also experimented with deleting ripple edits and replacing original audio with another track of my choice.
3. Preferences
This was mainly for choosing where I wanted to store my project files.
4. Keyboard Customisation
Very useful for saving time. I could assign my own shortcuts for specific actions. Once customized, I had to save them to keep the settings.
5. Inspector
One of the most powerful panels:
- Transform → Adjust X and Y positions.
- Cropping → Cut out unwanted areas.
- Dynamic Zoom → Add zoom with smooth transitions.
- Scaling → Make video fit/fill screen.
- Speed Controls → Change clip speed.
- Zoom In/Out → For focus.
For audio:
- Play in left, right, or both sides.
- Adjust transitions.
6. Preview Bar
This is where I watched all edits in real time before finalizing them.
Effects
- Video Transitions – Different transition effects between clips, previewable before use.
- Audio Transitions – Echo and other effects to enhance audio.
- Titles – Drag and drop title generators to add text (like my name and project details).
Task 1 – Edit Page
- Cut short clips and rearranged them in sequence.
- Added title generator for the intro and outro.
- Removed original audio and replaced with a new soundtrack.
- Added gifs which I installed from the web.
Task 2 – Cut Page
Assignment 2: Storytelling Video
- trimmed the clips which I did not require in the edit.
- Added a background track that matched the mood.
- Added many sound effects for the particular clips.
📎Cuting pages
Introduction to Fairlight Page (Audio Editing)
Fairlight was focused on audio editing:
- Syncing Audios → Auto Align → Waveforms.
- Voice imported → Directly imported duty free musics.
📎 Fairflight
Deliver Page (Exporting the Project)
Steps I followed:
- Named the video.
- Selected storage location.
- Chose output quality.
- Added to Render Queue.
- Clicked Render All → Export completed successfully.

Conclusion
Working on DaVinci Resolve 19 was a very hands-on and enjoyable experience.
I learned:
- Cutting and joining clips.
- Using transitions, titles, and audio effects.
- Adjusting video storytelling through editing.
- Professional audio editing in the Fairlight page.
- Exporting final videos in the Deliver page.
Overall, this course gave me practical exposure to professional video editing, I can say that if you learn any software like davinchi you can comfortably understand other editing tools which is a really good thing.
