Gravastars are a theoretical type of compact astrophysical object that could be an alternative to black holes. Let's learn about them in detail.

What happens when a star dies?

When a star dies a massive explosion occurs and is called the supernova. The core of the star collapses due to its own gravity. The shell rushes in and bounces against the collapsing core , explodes and shines extremely bright. Next , the core can compress to become a neutron star or it can turn into a black hole where laws of universe don't apply. Now, GRAVASTARS (gravitational-vacuum star) is a third option.

NEUTRON STAR BLACK HOLE

What is a GRAVASTAR?

The Gravastar, a hypothetical object in astrophysics, which was proposed in 2001 by Pawel Mazur and Emil Mottola as an alternative to black hole theory. In this model as a point reaches where black holes are formed, some exotic, quantum effects come into play. Due to this the collapsing core could transition into a state where the internal pressure and other forces are sufficient to stabilize the object and prevent the complete collapse. It still has an event horizon- a boundary beyond which nothing escapes. But like black hole there is no formation of singularity.

What is inside.?

The core is said to contain exotic or dark matter. It counters gravitational collapse, offering a form of stability that keeps the object from shrinking to infinite density. Some models of gravastars describe a distribution of energy and matter that decreases in density toward the center.

Furthermore, the event horizon could have an unusual equation of state, which allows it to remain stable at extremely high pressures and densities.

Conclusion

The concept of Gravastars is a theoretical one. It is also relatively a new one. Blackholes have troubled scientists as they break all the laws we know about the universe. But this problem does not arise with this new concept. However, they have their own new problems which includes the concept of exotic matter in the inside, the supermassive empty core and so on. Only the future research in the field can give us the deeper understanding of the universe.
